Document Summary
Slide 4: how many cells are in your body. All began as a single cell, union of a sperm and an egg. Mitotic division (1 to 2 to 4 cells ) All divided cells share same genetic heritage as the original. Divided cells differ in function though (muscle, skin, kidney, neuron) Nucleus contains most of the genetic material. Carry a lot of organisms that do not share genetic heritage with our eukaryotes (mostly prokaryotes) Prokaryotic cells do not contain a true nucleus (bacteria) Most is harmful but it is managed by the immune system to help keep it under control. Found in nearly every part of the body (skin, teeth, digestive and respiratory tracts) 10,000 species of microbes on a healthy human body. Organisms that are not visible to the naked eye. Only visible under a microscope: streptococcus salivarius: Normal inhabitant of upper respiratory tract and oral cavity.
