Document Summary

Chromosomes of eukaryotes and prokaryotes are the same. Genes are sections of the dna molecule which contain information that is transcribed into an rna copy. Stored information can be interpreted and transmitted for important cellular processes. In some cases, rna is functional, in other cases a mrna is further interpreted through translation into a sequence of amino acids that make up many proteins. The process of copying and interpreting genes into proteins = central dogma. Francis crick, late 1950s central dogma of cell biology proposes that information stored in the dna will specify the sequence of bases in rna, which codes for the amino acids in a protein. Dna can be copied multiple times into mrna. Gene expression process of transition from dna to mrna to protein, requires the transcription of information encoded in dna into rna. Genetic information coding for rna is contained within genes on a chromosome.
