Document Summary

Under favorable conditions and available nutrients all cells have the essential machinery that favors growth and division. Bacterial cells are rapidly dividing in a petri dish. A nutrient-rich environment containing amino acids and carbohydrates. All prokaryotes require the essential nutrients that are important for growth and cell division. Some of these aerobic environments can be re-created in the laboratory using culture media that is stock filled with these nutrients which can include amino acids, vitamins, nucleotides and carbohydrates. However, environments can undergo variable changes where a prokaryote may need to adapt to what is available. This is where gene regulation becomes important to help prokaryotes respond to their environments. The dna of bacterial nucleoid contains the information that is required to orchestrate a response to any change in the environment. Some of the dna contains genes that are required all of the time for normal functions. Other genes can be turned on and off as needed basis.
