Light travels farther at same speed so we think it takes longer . If it hits off a mirror and travels farther when sent on an angle we would think it takes longer. The same event (light going up and coming back down) appears to take longer (from our frame of reference) when the skateboarder is moving. The fast he is moving the longer this event seems to take: we say his clock appears to be moving slowly -- moving clocks run slowly. There is no way to tell which observer was the one who was moving! If you think about 2 light sources, one at rest (a) and one moving to the right(b): The rst one thinks that a is not moving and b is moving to the right. But if you were holding the b light you would think you were not moving and that a was moving to the left.
