ANTHROP 3FA3 Lecture Notes - Lecture 24: Sole Markings, False Start, Saw
Document Summary
Sharp force trauma & tool mark analysis: would characteristics, evidence on or introduced into bone. Blade characteristics: blade dimensions, v-shaped corss section (blade, wound width & shape reflects the blade type, size, force, etc. Cut marks (incisions: force applied across bone with a long sharp edge, wounds are large than they are wide. Chop marks: combination of sharp & blunt force, e. g. hatchet, machete, shovel, chop marks often cause, flaking, crushing, shattering, fracture lines, v-shaped, duller weapon may cause more crushing. Saw marks: sharp force trauma, cuts in or severing bone, hand saws , kerf: notch or groove made by a saw or cutting instrument, kerf width: approximate thickness of saw blade. Breakaway spur and notch: formed when a terminal cut is completed and the pressure of the blade is released from the cut, tool classes with greater force (e. g. chainsaw)=larger breakaway spur, less force (e. g. hacksaw)=smaller
