Anyone accused of witchcraft may receive 5-10 years in jail or the death penalty. 18 people (almost half of the women) were accused of witchcraft: speci c area of the prison for witches . Women accused of being witches are disowned by their families. In the prisons, people are afraid of the witches : ie. they blame a guard being sick on the witches . The prison can"t afford to feed detainees so they are forced to work & the money they make feeds them: witches , however, must stay behind. How do the police investigate witchcraft: article 162 of the penal code states that it exists if the penal code says it exists, it exists , try to gather evidence, use witch-hunters & traditional healers. They consult multiple traditional healers & if they all say the same thing, they have to persecute the person.
