In western society, religion is mostly seen as clearly delineated aspect of society, separate from the other terms above. In western society (canada or usa) we claim we are a secular society, tend to think of dichotomy in respect to religion. This may not be the case in non-western, non-industrialized societies. But even in our own society, despite them being two different things, our laws are predicated upon judeo-christian concepts about morality, right and wrong. Ideas about morality informed by religious principles whether we want to admit that or not. They believed it controlled all aspects of life.
