Key concept in anthro because it is a key method (way of doing anthropology) Long term fieldwork; engage with group of people for a year or more (for a cultural anthropologist); one year necessary because people you work with (building rapport), may take that long (i. e. for archeologist anthropologists) Long term engagement is necessary for immersion within a society. Representation = how we depict people in our writing or through film/pictures. Ethical responsibility to provide a fair representation and to think critically about how certain representations may negatively affect the people we study. Groups who already have horrific experiences working with outsiders (i. e. indigenous groups) Indigenous group of 30 000 people in amazonian regions of brazil and venezuela. Today some live in westernized villages and other live in traditional" villages. Didn"t receive any outside contact since the late 1950"s (very geographically isolated)
