That is starting to change as we see more people self-identifying as other ie, transgender, She argues that with respect to sex that there are at least 5 sexes, many of them being various forms of intersex. But as she argues we are deeply committed to the idea of two sexes. Her estimate: 1. 7% of people are born or self-identify as intersex.
