Intro to sex, food and death january 30th, 2017. Also a large range of social responses to death. Influenced by beliefs about life, death and the hereafter. Create categories for death: (ex: murder, abortion, natural causes etc. ) We use euphemisms to explain how death occurs. (ex: kick the bucket, pass away, etc) A meaningful sacrifice most often in a militarized setting. Continuation of life (all the good things in life go on for eternity) Perpetual development (a birth into a newer, freer mode of existence) Virtual (we live on through our accomplishes) Traditional medical view lack of respiration, pulse and heartbeat. The harvard criteria for death: unreceptive and unresponsive, no spontaneous movement or respiration, no reflexes, a flat eeg (electrical activity in the brain, no circulation to or within the brain. Do(cid:272)tor(cid:859)s prese(cid:374)(cid:272)e at the death(cid:271)ed was rare. Status symbol to die under medical care.
