Largest population of foreign-born individuals among g8: 21% (stats canada, Metaphoric portrayal of canada as cultural mosaic (aujla, 200; henry & tator, 2009) Cultural mosaic acts as vertical mosaic and conceals marginalization and oppression (porter, 1965) The 2012-2013 annual report of the office of the correctional investigator demonstrated that the large number of visible minority inmates is partly reflective of the overall demographic change in canadian society. However, it also shows that the representation of minorities in prison is disproportionate in comparison to their share of the general population and this is a persistent (over the last 10 years) and growing problem.
