In recent decades, the consumer/survivor movement and progressive clinicians/ researchers have. Governments around the world (particularly the english speaking world) have embraced this new notion of recovery" in mental health: canada, mental health commission of canada formed in 2007 by harper. There was a sort of segregation: stigma is a massive barrier to recovery. Recovery stands in contrast to notions of : chronicity idea that once you had a mental illness it was for life (whole health care system was based on this). 1/3 make good recovery and 1/3 make partial. If you think of the above ideas of recovery though we see everyone makes some sort of recovery. Idea that it doesn"t completely write you off or resign you from life: stabilization giving patients a lot of drugs to put them in a sort of trance trying to move away from this.
