Europe in the 20th century had two wars, killed a lot of people collateral damage from ethnic cleansing, flus etc. Of particular importance, two things that lie behind the reconstruction of europe: geo-politics of a situation. Russia did not march to paris, but it is a different political system. Europe was made into an american empire by invitation. American was asked to provide support and security through nato. The eu is the brainchild of the french bureaucrats, john monay who has experienced three wars and says, we can"t beat the germans, we have to do something else if we want to survive . Would not have succeeded without the americans. Monay goes to washington to back these early moves (support from eisenhower).
