With innish schools, make it personally meaningful and encourage autonomy. For example, opional paper in class has many diferent choices of topics. By allowing people to make choices (in paricular with things that interest them)- more likely to tap into intrinsic moivaion. Would you consider allowing your mother to select your marriage partner (with the understanding that you could approve or veto the match ater a single two-hour face-to-face meeing?) Most people would say no to both in this culture. There is research on how cultural background will inluence how you will feel about personal choice and parental help. Prof read a story about new yorkers who were indian americans and highly westernized, but chose the tradiional approach of arranged wedding. Prof didn"t know if he would be able to connect to the story at irst but then saw a lot of parallels with the male. Both irst generaion, went to the best schools, went to university .
