Lecture 21 a dark side of the american dream: aspirations, Another consequence of teaching students to care about reward, praise and competition, might in uence their value development and their life goals. Tk thinks that if you are constantly focusing on reward and socialize kids that way, the kids will grow up only caring about wealth. If you focus too much on praise, kids will be preoccupied with image. Competition might transform kids into caring about popularity, status and rank. Tk might suggest there might be a direct relation between the way we socialize kids and what they later want to acquire in life. Why do the amish have such low rates of depression? note-worthy, low level of depression. 1950 - now, x5 times early episode, originally started in 30s, now early 30s rate for relapse is increasing but there is lots of treatment not genetic or food, more like the culture has emerged, how we live.
