Document Summary
Argues that innate talent plays no role. His father exposed him to golf at a very young age. He started deliberate practice at a young age and did it longer and better than anyone else. Stopped performing the deliberate practice necessary to learn new skills. Most of us stop doing deliberate practice once we reach a somewhat acceptable level. Eg. a doctor with 25 years of experience is no better than a doctor with 5 years. Purposeful practice is also goal oriented, receives feedback, you concentrate on trying to improve. The difference between purposeful vs deliberate practice is that in purposeful practice there is no coach/teacher who is trying to push you to improve. Two key challenges to the question of why some individuals are able to seemingly rise to top a lot faster/easier than others: Some children respond so much faster to training.
