Document Summary

90% of our problems with goal pursuit has to do with under regulation. Story of kerri strug and the gold medal for the americans. Self control= the capacity to alter one"s responses, especially so as to bring them into line with standards such as ideals, values, morals and social expectations, and to support the pursuit of long term goals. Overriding our natural tendencies by focusing on a meaningful long term goal. More deliberate, conscious and effortful subset of self regulation transcendence= seeing beyond the immediate stimulus environment by focusing on more long range goals that are higher in value. Prayers and religious beliefs can actually aid in self control. Elite gymnasts show immense self regulatory strength eg. no spontaneous/uncontrolled eating, no giving in to minor injuries, no going on dates, etc. Under regulation lack of specific standards. A lack of understanding of how to reach the goal/your capacity to reach it.
