1960: 5, added for diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, polio. 1980: 8, removed for small pox, added for mmr (measles, mumps, rubella) 14 shots by 6 years of age (includes for pneumonia, flu, rotavirus, chicken pox) Removed from nearly all vaccines in 2001. It is still in some flu vaccines, but they are not given to children. Controversial: mercury is found in this compound. Symptoms of autism are noticed right around the time children get their vaccinations. 12 children with normal development followed by onset of behavioural difficulties and gastrointestinal problems. For 8 children, onset was linked to mmr vaccine by parents or physician. Note: the authors were careful to point out that this study did not prove a link between behavioural problems and vaccination. Also note that only a subset of autistic cases were linked to vaccine. 2006: 85% (compared to 94% for other vaccines) 2006 incidence rates for measles and mumps were 13x and 37x higher than in 1997.
