Tendency to react negatively on an emotional, cognitive and behavioural level to uncertain situations and events . Individuals who are intolerant of uncertainty may believe they lack sufficient coping or problem solving skills to effectively manage threatening situations. Compulsions in ocd often attempt to inc certainty. Compulsions are effective in the short term, which reinforces that behaviour. Feelings of uncertainty frequently arise for those with ocd, causing constant repeating of the compulsion to reduce this. Can erode quality of social support as they engage in repeated compulsions with their family members/people they are close to as the uncertainty usually is directed to these people. Moral taf= unwanted thoughts about disturbing actions are equivalent to the. In ocd there are 2 types: moral taf and likelihood taf actions themselves. Leads to strong aversion and guilt assume eg. having a violent thought means acting violently against them. Likelihood taf= thinking about a disturbing event makes it more probable.
