Document Summary
Nov. 2nd exam: from hoge et al. to anticevic for readings, for lectures- up until and including oct. 31st- starting from where the last exam left off. Amygdala is related to anxiety and stress- activation of amygdala activates circuitry involving the hippocampus, hypothalamus and most of the limbic system area and it activates the stress response- which is the essence of the fight or flight response. Hypothalamus involved in producing certain hormones, which activate the pituitary gland- which activates acth. Which then produces cortisol- which is the major measure we use to assess stress. It activates not only the sympathetic stress system- but it is a major aspect of the immune system. Many of our major diseases seen as purely physiological, involvement of psychological aspects where stress is activated to effect the immune system. Heart disease- increasingly being explained as an over functioning of the immune system.
