Drugs block post synaptic receptor so that next neuron can"t fire. Other drugs effect reuptake of da leading to hyper-stimulation e. g. amphetamines (ritalin, cocaine) All with conditions that are very vague teachers (cid:498)diagnose(cid:499) b/c kids are. Oppositional defiant disorder (40-60%) kid doesn"t follow directions disruptive. Begs the question: what are we looking at. 33 year follow up of kids diagnosed age 8 causes these effects. Sig worse educational, occupational, economic, and social outcomes. Does not prove that they have a disorder, proves that diagnosing them. Studies show drug effect is not sustainable (have to stay on it forever) Drug effect is not proof of an illness. Study found that giving anyone ritalin improves focus etc. for a short. Frontal lobe lesions of da projections produces hyperactivity symptoms.
