The role of genes- genes and how they interact with various environmental events that change the risk for abnormal behaviours. Ganna give a bunch of ex. "s of these kinds of interactions that illustrate that point. Conflict(stress) situation: bar press for food (no salt), partial reinforcement schedule, intermittent shock. Result: salt sensitive animals show high blood pressure, leading some to die. There was a study done with rats that had been bread to be sensitive to salt. - bred by dahl- he was studying hypertension. Then along came some other researchers and used these animals in a diff. experiment: Conflict situation- had to press a bar to get food on a partial reinforcement schedule. Partial reinforcement schedule- means that you produce consistent rate of responding. To produce conflict- periodically, these animals would get electric shocks. Working for food- positive and getting zapped every once in a while to produce an avoid-approach kind of conflict.
