The social context affects the way we perceive ourselves and how we present ourselves to others. Attachment theory: describes long-term closely bonded relationships. Attachment: an affectional tie that one person or animal forms between him/herself and another specific one-a tie that binds them together in space and endures over time: more than connection between 2 individuals. It is defined by a desire for regular contact, not just contact in one moment in time, and distress upon separation. Attachment theory: after wwii, there was a problem with homeless and orphaned children. When looking at delinquency in children, he noticed that separation was a significant predictor in the kids he was studying. Theorized that the infant- caregiver relationship and the separation that goes with this relationship could have lasting effects on children. Developed attachment theory: definition: separation protest, despair, detachment reflects operating of innate attachment system designed to promote close physical contact between infant and caregiver.
