Lecture 22: the psychopathology of everyday life: freudian slips: Freud focuses on the aspect of our personality that is unconscious. Psychodynamics are used mostly in literature, not modern psychology. When you go for psychoanalysis, you tell your life story. The problem that arises is that freudian theories cannot be measured with scales such as suppression. You can think about how they are relevant in our lives, but hard to study in a group way. Psychoanalysis and the psychopathology of everyday life book by freud: discusses memory lapses, slips of the tongue, and mistaken actions. Errors reflect there is something deeper going on. Sometimes we are aware we are making errors, but we attribute it to simply forgetting, incidental circumstances or being tired. Mistaken actions: call up ex-boyfriend by accident. Slips of the tongue: call someone by a different name. Memory lapses and slips of the tongue were reported as happening to college students about 3 times a week.
