There wasn"t a conscious effort to ignore victims of prejudice rather, there was a folk theory all of us had about race. Most of the time, it"s normal to prefer you own kind (in-group favouritism) this is indicative of a healthy social identity. The demonstration of a group choosing an out-group rather than their in-group is. This happens when the power differential between the group is really high (won"t happen when the groups are of approximately equal power. If you"re told often enough from a high-power group that you have a certain stereotype, and are consistently oppressed then you"ll internalize it and come to accept it. On the basis of all this, the u. s. supreme court became completely convinced that segregated schooling was detrimental to the self-esteem of blacks and was determined to end segregation immediately and this is what happened. They set an ultimatum: if your school doesn"t desegregate, it"ll be shut down.
