Tajfel and turner used the terms superior vs. inferior group (up till now, our theories viewed both groups as having equal power this because, for example, How do you know which is superior and inferior? everyone agrees (both members in the adv. and disadv. groups) therefore, they are objectively superior/inferior. The second distinction tajfel and turner made between groups is that they can either engage in social mobility or social change. Social mobility = an individual is attempting to climb the status ladder - upward social movement they don"t want to be stuck wherever they are. Is social mobility being suppressed in canada? parents no longer have the dream that their children will be better off than they were. T&t don"t go into detail of what strategies individuals will take if they decide to become socially mobile ex. it might be through education > social mobility is an individual strategy.
