PSYC 328 Lecture Notes - Lecture 10: Electrodermal Activity, Sympathetic Nervous System, Cortisol
Document Summary
Some focus on elements of the nervous system. Ways to measure the sympathetic nervous system function and arousal, one of the oldest and most utilized is the galvanic skin response. The electric conductance of the skin and this varies depending on the amount of sweat moisture on the skin surface. Assuming that when a person was lying, the person would get nervous have stress and sweat more and would be captured. Modern gsr measurements relies on sensitive measures and software, moisture on stress conditions. Other parts of biological measurements of sns is heart rate/blood pressure induced by constriction of arteries in an effort to push more blood to the heart in result of a stress response. Example of stress response interfering in health setting: white coat phenomenon. When people get stressed in doctor"s office, this interferes with reliable assessment of blood pressure because it goes up because of this stress reaction.
