Wide panoply of treatments available for chronic pain: at the end of the day, your doctor can prescribe whatever he/she wants. That being said, people are at least paying lip service if not actually implementing a new concept in medicine called evidence based medicine. Evidence-based medicine even though your doctor has the power to do whatever he/she wants, they probably should(cid:374)"t. Over the years, this pyramid of evidence has been compiled. The higher the level of evidence you can get to, the more confident you can (cid:271)e that so(cid:373)ethi(cid:374)g does o(cid:396) does(cid:374)"t (cid:449)o(cid:396)k. Editorials, expert opinion (bottom: people having a lifetime of experience treating their patients, they think something works, your doctor is here, we need more than this. The(cid:396)e (cid:272)a(cid:374) (cid:271)e pla(cid:272)e(cid:271)o effe(cid:272)t, (cid:272)og(cid:374)iti(cid:448)e (cid:271)iases, a(cid:374)e(cid:272)dotal sto(cid:396)ies . Better than the above two are experimental studies: case-control studies, cohort studies, randomized controlled trials. What people care most about out of the three studies mentioned here.
