Chapter 1 - an invitation to social psychology. Alan turing played an important role on breaking german codes during wwii for british intelligence, but after that he was arrested for homosexual conduct. The court let him decide to go into prison or take chemical treatment (taking medicine), he chose the latter one. This story wants to point out that homosexual was clearly unacceptable at that time, especially in the military, however as the time goes all laws in the u. s. criminalizing homosexual acts became invalid in 1990s. As the time go into 21, the acceptance of homosexual increases really fast. This brings us to the topic of social situation can influence behavior . Social psychology: the scientific study of the feelings, thoughts, and behaviors of individuals in social situations. Social psychology is interested in fundamental questions about human nature and their social world, but with the implication of the scientific method.
