PSYC 215 Lecture Notes - Lecture 3: Social Perception, Descriptive Knowledge, Social Skills
Document Summary
Someone just prematurely dropped some sheets at professor"s feet and looked "angry" as she stormed off. The way she walked off; very focused to get out the door; not concerned with the situation. She was frowning; assume professor did something to make her frown; infer he had done something wrong to her. Professor"s lack of reaction perhaps implies that he was able to justify her attitude. One person saw it as embarrassment/awkwardness and not anger; maybe she made a mistake and wanted to leave as quickly as she could. Someone only saw the papers fall and not the girl; hypothesize the professor made a mistake and he was embarrassed; only had half the information and led to a different hypothesis. Life often appears to us as "one great blooming, buzzing confusion" (james) There is a lot going on in social life and social interaction; even in a simple conversation between two people; facial expressions, background meanings etc.
