PSYC 213 Lecture 9: Lecture 9
Document Summary
Optical illusion vs visual illusions: optical like a mirage: the trick is in the light, illusion: the trick in in the mind. Is when perception conflicts with reality: problem: all of our perception are somewhat not totally accurate. The colors are in your head, creation on your mind. Horizontal-vertical illusion can be compared with a rainbow. 2 lines of the same length in a form of t. we will always think that the horizontal line is longer when in fact they are the same length. Definition of a visual illusion: : a misperception that stands out as an anomaly. Ex: 2 words wrote in pink covered by yellow stripes. We have the impression that the 2 words are now in a different color. One on a dark background and the other on a colorful one. They don"t seem to be the same color. Illusions are perceptual hypothesis. (alhazen was a very important person who brought this idea. )
