Several ways that the retina divides the processing of visual info. Parasol cells- large rf, poor colour sensitivyt but do not adapt quickly so they can keep up with fast moving stimuli-great temporal response. Leaves the retina- the structure and connectivity of the visual system from the retina to the primary visual cortex- also called v1. At that point you are no longer having rep. of one eye alone, but rep. of one half of your visual field, or the other half of your visual field. Feeds into the visual cortex, and some of the really impressive features of the visual cortex. In the lgn- there is some processing that goes on and then after that, the info. At that point we are in the cerebrial cortex. the visual system: How the info from the visual field is combined. Same thing for other portion- temporal retina stays in that hemisphere and the nasal retinal crosses over.
