Nociception: detection of painful stimuli- come in a variety, sometimes over stimulate something if you slam your foot. Strong mechanical pressure causing pain or situations where you cut yourself- signals carried by diff. mechanisms. Sharp pain- milonated a delta fibers- transmit signals from the periphery to the cns to say you hurt yourself. Slower c-fiber signals- tend to be sensitive to many more things like chemical irritants, including the blood itself- blood starts pissing off these receptors, causing them to be active.
