In the cns the oligodendrocytes support axons and produce myelin. In the pns schwann cells perform the same functions. The blood brain barrier: semipermeable barrier between the blood and the fluid that surrounds the cells of the brain. Functions: o provide a balance between substances within neurons and in ecf. An imbalance can disrupt the transmission of messages thus affecting brain functions. Is not uniform through out the ns o in several places the barrier is relatively permeable, allowing substances that are excluded elsewhere to cross freely. > causing it to send messages down its axon o the terminal buttons of the interneuron release a neurotransmitter that excites the motor neuron - The role of inhibition o pain from the heat causes a withdrawal reflect the pain from the heat increases the activity of excitatory synapses on the motor neuron causing the hand to contract and move away.
