Document Summary

Topic 9 = hypothesis testing for two-sample means. Hypothesis testing for paired sample means so dependent sample test ex: similar groups. Hypothesis testing for unpaired sample means so independent sample test ex: diff groups. Not interested in average bp before & after but interested in change/difference from before & = difference between paired observations not individual sample. 2 population means not different / so no change. Hypothesis: 1 2 or d 0. Sample drawn from population with d = 0. 2 population means different / so detect change. Sample drawn from population with d 0. 1- test for significance of difference of paired means. Ex: change of blood pressure after anti-hypertensive drug. H0 1 = 2 no difference from before-after drug & h1 1 2 difference from before-after drug: state h0 null hypothesis. H0: 1 = 2 or d = 0 2 population means not different - no change.
