Document Summary
Unit 3b neuroimaging and lower and midbrain deiniions. Eeg (electroencephalogram): ampliies electrical wave acivity that sweeps across brains surfaces, measured by electrodes placed on scalp looks at brain acivity and simulus. Ct scan (computed tomography scan): series of x-ray photos taken at diferent angles and composited together reveals brain damage. Pet scan (positron emission scan): detects where a radioacive form of glucose goes when performing a task locates radioacive hotspots. Mri (magneic resonance imaging): uses magneic ields and radio waves to produce computer=generated images of sot issue brain anatomy and disorders fmri (funcional mri):reveals blood low and compares with mri shows brain funcion. Brain stem: oldest and central part of brain, responsible for automaic survival funcions. Medulla: swelling base of brainstem, controls heartbeat and breathing. Reicular formaion: netlike part between ears, network that controls arousal and simuli.
