Document Summary
Action potential: sodium channels open, potassium channels open, depolarization, sodium channels close, re-polarization, potassium channels start to close, threshold. Action potential in un-myelinated axon: sodium will come in through channels at axon, sodium once in axon will dissipate and channels close, channels closer to synaptic terminal will open. Action potential: saltatory conduction (faster action potential): myelin wrapping around, less resistance, points within axon where there is no myelin. Everything is excitatory except for gaba: inhibitory will inhibit cell, excites neurone so it fires more (excitatory) Need to know the gross anatomy of the brain. Temporal lobe: hearing (side of head) know where all these are related. Cns: brain and spinal cord, peripheral nervous system: how all sensory information is sent to the brain and how brain sends information back (somatic & autonomous) Cortical plasticity: brain will organize itself differently so you can have other important functions. Synaptic plasticity: another term is ltp long term potentiation is the mechanism for memory.
