Document Summary
Pns includes somatic and autonomic systems: somatic nervous system: transmit signals to cns from muscles, joints, skin via nerves. Cns sends signal through sns to muscles joints, muscles and skin to initiate, modulate or inhibit movement: autonomous nervous system: regulates internal environment of the body. Stimulates glands (sweat glands) and organs (heart, liver, lungs, pupils). Nerves of ansproject signals from these targets to cns: sympathetic signalling: prepares body for action. Chronic stress leads to increased activity of this system: peripheral nervous system: pns includes somatic and autonomic systems. Endocrine system: endocrine system: a communication network that influences thoughts, behaviours, actions. It works together with the nervous (preparing body to deal with perceived threats) : endocrine system signals slower than nervous system. Hypothalamus-pituitary-adrenal gland: hypothalamus: secretes hormones corticotrophin releasing hormone that promotes pituitary to release adrenocorticotropic hormone which increases cortisol production of the adrenal gland, cortisol: inhibits production of crh & acht in a negative feedback loop.
