Jus in bello: legal restraint in a battlefield. The main sources derived from customary law and : 1907 hague conventions, geneva conventions, 1977 additional protocols. International armed conflict: these are traditional inter-state wars, and are considered common article. All 4 geneva conventions apply & 1977 additional protocol i. Protocol: include armed conflicts in which people are fighting against colonial domination, and alien occupation and racist regimes (car) They are usually easily recognized: would not be considered border dispute. Non-international armed conflicts: these are usually internal civil wars and are titled as common. Protections of individuals in armed conflict, like potential mistreatment (humane treatment for those not taking part in hostile activities - this means no mutilation and also cannot take hostages, due process and no torture) Disorder and bandits are not recognized as article 3 conflicts. International and internal conflicts are occurring simultaneously within the same state.
