Document Summary
Marx criticized liberal policies for failing to deliver the promised results: everything market based not social, dickens criticized liberal policies ex. His arguments used dialectical logic (i. e. events are driven by contradictions) Contradictions are defined as logically identified inconsistencies which may or may not appear obvious. Marx used the labor theory of value (i. e. all value is created first by labor: accumulation of labor is value of product (cid:1) (cid:1) (cid:1) V=k+w+sv: v stands for value, k stands for capital, w stands for wages, sv stands for surplus value. Liberals think this is profit that the owner earned. Marxists think that sv belongs to the workers. Profit is taking money away from the real variables (workers) Value is what someone is willing to pay for it (non- liberal) The expropriation of surplus value is exploitation (cid:1) Surplus value is created; used in two ways: concentration of capital per worker. People are pushed out of the village and into the city.
