Interpretations of locke: us/american, property as most important to government, sufficiency only applies at initial acquisition. Important: reason to leave state of nature is to secure it: new reason: only way to distribute property after no sufficiency is the conventional way, motivation to start civil society and a representative government. Those who naturally acquired property rights join society for protection of what they initially got: continuous, sufficiency applies throughout time, thing is no longer yours if you can"t meet sufficiency requirement. Means government determines distribution of property: distribute by convention, not by nature, motivation: no spoilage continuously applies. Consent: basis of political society i. e. the social contract, 2 ways of consenting to the whole system, express consent: use of language. Consequence: consent dissolves if government does: tacit consent: use of actions. Must leave society in order to get out of the social contract.
