Document Summary

On truth and lies: nietzsche, best known for god is dead and we have killed him. Hermeneutics of suspicion: best way to understand a historical phenomenon, movement or event is not to listen to surface reasons, but look for hidden motives. Marx, nietzsche, and freud are the 3 unofficial founders of this. Marx: history is a class struggle between the rich/poor. Freud: our behaviour is based on unconscious/subconscious elements. The enlightenment: exalt in the glory of humankind, made in god"s likeness. Nietzsche: humans are as insignificant as dust from an unbiased pov. Homo sapiens megalomania: humans haven"t been around for most of the universe. We are insignificant; but we feel important bc we have the power of reason. Nietzsche: deception of others and self-deception are ubiquitous in human life; humans cannot handle the truth! Truth and lies are born together: once we have the notion of something being true, the door is opened to the liar; representation comes with misrepresentation.
