Phenomenology: looking at first person point of view, consider what it"s actually like to live in the world and experience something firsthand. Body as an object limited ways to view body no full control over image in the mirror. Merleau-ponty: rather than our body being an object among other objects, it is the condition with which we view other objects. Change creates new horizons with which to experience the world. Problems: psychologists view consciousness as something that can be studied. Everything in the world is able to be reduced to its physical processes. An ant could have consciousness, but it would be different than human.
