Document Summary

Positive value: value: objective and external to oneself (you can either get it right or wrong ) Jurgen habermas, on the cognitive context of morality . Habermas calls these strong values. if you have projects that make life meaningful, you have an idea of things objectively better than other things. example. humans are objectively better than rocks, mosquitoes. The world is value-filled, in that some things are better than others. Tiny speck in vast universe means we aren"t the center of the universe; we build our lives around values outside of ourselves. Looking for objective (there is a connection to the possibility of making or correcting errors), rational, universal (applying to everyone) basis for morality . That accommodates and respects cultural diversity, difference, and disagreement of the modern world. He thinks this can be found in communication about values (the fact that people in all cultures are talking about what to do, giving reasons for/against various actions).
