Document Summary

Sympathetic control of vessel tone: capillaries not innervated by sympathetic nervous system since don"t have smooth muscle, same path again, from spinal chord, except norepinephrine released on a- adrenergic receptor of smooth muscle of blood vessel. Increases calcium concentration and force of contraction of smooth muscle in arterioles and arteries. Increase bp: a-agonist can also be used when really low blood pressure, this affects total peripheral resistance (tpr) --> increases it. If give a-blocker, get opposite effect, decreased state contraction of muscle: treat high blood pressure, in very particular circumstances. Adrenal glands: only pre-ganglionic axon, neuron secretes ach onto adrenal medulla, which releases 2/3 epinephrine and 1/3 norepinephrine, both are beta and alpha agonist. Renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system (raa: lots of effects on cardiovascular system to modify bp. Drugs: raa system is prime site for drugs/treatment to increase bp. Decrease bp: aldosterone-receptor antagonist, ace inhibitors, angiotensin ii receptor blocker, renin inhibitors.
