Adaptive immunity - improve overtime - specific response. Bcr and tcr are similar but not identical. Plasma cells secrete soluble form of expressed immunoglobulin. Production site: bone marrow, mature in spleen (not an absolute) (2ndary organ) T cell: from bone marrow, matured in thymus. No ab on the surface when b is immature, but the ab is incomplete. Organs are connected via bld and lymphatic vessels. Neg selection: developing b will be exposed to self-ag, identify themselves, tell that the system is in good condition; be able to recognize itself. Importance: can have auto immune disease if there"s no selection. Ag: foreign protein / molecules that triggers immune reaction. Problem: very little amount of genes but more ab. Repertoire: amount of ag to be identified --->more types of ab than genes that code them. Germline theory: 1 gene code for 1 ab. Somatic theory: germline (stem cell) limited # of genes and have diversity.
