They were replaced by the govt. of edouard daladier (a radical who led a government of the center and moderate right) from apr. This all happened in the context of the spanish civil war: the spanish civil war: Spain experienced a revolution in 1931 which made it a liberal republic. The spaniards(cid:495) popular front won the majority of seats in feb. 1936. However this led to a coup by the army leadership on july 17. Civil war between the socialist republican govt. and the nationalist side (including the falange, catholics, large landowners, and ultra-nationalists) under general. The republicans were supported by the ussr (gb and france did not intervene and were neutral) while the nationalists were supported by italy and germany.
