Learning in health education - nur1 428 - prep for final exam. Learning requires individual to be active participant (engage in his/her own learning process). Teaching implies that the person can be more passive (teacher is the expert): teaching is a way of learning, just as information seeking, interacting with others, through trial and error . Teacher-centered - individuals passively receive the information; teacher-student power differential. Knowledge is transmitted from teacher to the individual (adding new knowledge) Learner-centered - individuals are actively involved; learning environment empowers learners. Individuals construct knowledge through gathering and synthesizing information and integrating it connecting new knowledge to past experience. Agenda and desired outcomes set by the teacher agenda and outcomes discussed between the learner and facilitator. Emphasis is on subject matter concepts first, application later. Emphasis is on using and communicating knowledge effectively to address needs.
