Considered an acquired bleeding disorder , event that can accompany various disease processes alteration in the blood clotting mechanism. Disruption of blood flow to organs (hypo perfusion 2nd systemic, inflammatory processes) Pre-eclampsia, placenta abruptio, amnioc fluid embolism, hellp, major tissue injuries, trauma. Systemic activation of the coagulation system simultaneously widespread coagulation and bleeding in the vascular space ensues. Thrombus formation (compromising blood supply to various organs) Exhaustion of platelets and coagulation factors (as results of the overwhelming clot formation) Brief period of hyper coagulation: coagulation cascade is initiates. Causing widespread fibrin formation: micro thrombi are deposited. Throughout microcirculation: fibrin deposit result in tissue. Ischemia, hypoxia, necrosis: leads to multi organ dysfunction. Gi: excreta for melena, hematemesis, stool testing occult blood.
