Monody is homophonic by definition, and much (not all) baroque music is based on this model. One very important development in baroque period is the invention of monody. Melody +accompaniment in a hierarchical relationship; characterized by a clear bass line. Homophonic texture can be created by instruments alone, vocalists alone or any combination of the two, and both voices and instruments can perform an accompaniment.
